| Group Two Induction Week (4 June – 8 June) | ||

| What a first week for the new group of apprentices! The week began with a tour of the Institute of Box Hill. They were shown where they will be studying and introduced to the wonderful teachers and staff who will support them through their course, more importantly teacher Andrew Sankey!
Afterwards, the Apprentices traveled to the The Reach Foundation who offered their support through a team building workshop - this opened the doors for any concerns and past problems the apprentices may have experienced. It was also a great chance for the new group to get to know eachother and talk about life experiences. Tuesday, the new apprentices were collected by the wonderful staff at Front Yard through Melbourne City Mission where they were shown their offices and participated in an information session on what Front Yard offer in terms of accommodation support, vital as many have housing issues. Wednesday kicked off with a more serious workshop held at St Vincent’s Hospital, Department for Addictive Medicines. The Drug and Alcohol session was extremely informative and essential for many of the apprentices to move on from their past habits. As this was pretty heavy going, the apprentices were given a behind the scene tour of the Museum of Victoria afterwards. This was an awesome experience. Thank you to the staff at the Museum for providing the apprentices with a well deserved upbeat experience.On Thursday, the National Australia Bank were back assisting the Fifteen Foundation and provided for a great location for a session and lunch with nutritionist, Sherry Strong at their purpose built, ergonomic building at the Docklands. What a vital and informative session for the next generation of Chefs. The apprentices certainly learnt the value of what they eat - you are what you eat as they say! Jennie, Mark and Michael from the National Australia Bank were also on hand to provide financial support to the new apprentices with advice on budgeting, how to reduce debt and how to better use their bank accounts. The Trainees were in awe of the amazing building. A big thank you to Daniel Cairns from Workplace Connect who organized a recruitment/HR workshop for the Group 1 Apprentices. They are due to enter the workforce in September this year and with his help, the apprentices now have training in interview techniques and resume writing. Workplace Connect also facilitated the venue and provided a scrumptious lunch. Thanks again for your ongoing support. A BIG thanks to Samantha Benardo who organised a fun tour of the Prahran Market. Traders and Group 1 Apprentices shared their
knowledge to help the new recruits select great produce fit for a feast. The finest produce was provided on the day and the Apprentices
cooked up a feast. Thanks again to Samantha and the Traders involved for making the tour a great experience and for the show bags full
of goodies and information. |
